Welcome visitors! My name is Jolisa and this is my very first blog entry of many. I made this site because I get a lot of questions about my hair during my commutes in New York City. Mostly, “What products do you use?”, and “How do you get your hair that way?” I try to answer as best I can knowing that whatever I say will not be beneficial to the person asking. Why? Because..
It’s not just about the products but also the technique in which you handle your hair.
I never remember the name of the products off the top of my head; usually just the brand or small parts of the name of one or two products.
So instead of trying to explain everything before my train arrives, I thought it would be best to come up with this site to explain exactly what I do and the products I use.
Why bother to share?
…because I’d like to see more woman of African decent wearing their natural hair. Relaxers and texturizers are not needed for managable hair! From my experience, we are taught from an early age to be ashamed of our natural kinks and curls but this is because our mothers were never taught how to manage it themselves.
Also, I’m tired of hearing negative comments about our natural hair, especially from people of African decent. I rarely hear anything more aggravating than “She needs a perm”. If your hair was intended to be straight, then it would be that way naturally.
I find it a little disturbing how surprised black woman are when I tell them my curls are my natural curl pattern. The same curls hide on the top of your head too! It is beautiful, easy to care for, and can bring a closer feeling of selfawareness, something I feel is very necessary, especially in African-American culture. All it takes is a few minutes of love and care.
